Proud to be an Indian or HYBRID : A Dilemma

Proud to be an Indian or HYBRID : A Dilemma
We are very proud of being Indian but my question is Are we INDIAN? We speak English, our favorite cuisine is Chinese, love western looks, dying for settling abroad and feel proud in writing in English as I’m writing but we never say We love China, England or any other country…Is this Hypocrisy or there is some error in the way we live?  Yes, the error exists for sure as neither we are pure Indian nor pure foreigner, then who we are…We are Hybrid –A mixture.

I’m not saying that  there is some problem in being Hybrid rather it is our special quality with extra capability of being familiar with multiple cultures, so my concern is not this hybridity in our character, the problem arises when this exotic attraction overpower an Indian mind to such an extent that she/he* begins to feel her/his* own cultures, customs, traditions, language etc as inferior, The same thing can be seen in the mentality of majority of  youth today, they consider every pure Indian entity as backward, boring & out of  fashion….”Namaste London” movie is the best example where Katrina Kaif whose name is Jasmeet in the movie prefers to be called Jass than Jasmeet. Guys! I must aware you it’s not their fault…this is a direct outcome of Postcolonialism means impact of colonization, Britishers colonized us and instilled in our mind that everything related to them is gentle, they are lords and best outcome of human evolution and we started  imitating them in every form and aspect, although 72 years before we became independent from them but still the feeling of their supremacy haunts us and we want to act, speak, behave and look like them. I want to clear here that being Indian if we are familiar with the ways of western then there is nothing to mourn moreover we should celebrate our special characteristic of being hybrid as we are good in both the lifestyles. The problem occurs when we underrate our own Indian identity…I hope you know about India’s glorious past when people from all over the world used to visit Indian universities for its special reputation in its unique ways of learning and it used to be the dream of the students for studying in these universities such as Nalanda and Takshashila.

Do you know why the foreign invaders attacked and destroyed our unparalleled universities because they knew that people empowered with such a great wisdom can not be enslaved so they ransacked our extraordinary heritage…but despite the havoc created by them India is successful in holding its head high with millions of Indian texts and scriptures up to today which shows that how scholarly Indian people used to be. Therefore, my dear fellows, Indianness is not something to feel inferior, it  is a matter of proud that we belong to India and Yes, don’t forget to celebrate our Hybridity.
Jai Hind, Jai Bharat!
